Masters at 25, a great job at 27, it's all set! Right? Maybe not. There are a million things to consider when applying for masters. Here's our take on it.

Let's unpack masters: Steps and tips💡

1. The India v/s abroad dilemma:

Ask yourself all kinds of 'why', 'where' and 'what' questions in the initial stage. Why am I pursuing masters? What is the return on invest? Where do I see myself settling down? If I want to settle down abroad, what kind of courses are good for me? (you can check out STEM programs if this is the case for you)

2. Make your 2 x 2 matrix:

Self reflection is very important. You need to understand what your passions are and how do they align with the evolution of tech and the world in general. Do this before you start your masters journey.

Ask yourself two questions: 'What are my interests and passions?' & 'Is there future scope for this passion of mine?'. Once you have a list of all your interests, start mapping them in a 2x2 matrix as shown 👇🏼

💡Once you have your 2x2 matrix in place, find career options that align with your green box. This step will help you understand where you stand. Which in turn will help you find your perfect potential masters programs.

3. The pre-requisites:

Once you start looking for potential universities, ensure you are aware of all the pre-requisites. Any prior specialization or education needed? What kind of work ex is needed? How much of a financial investment is this course?

It's also always good to explore different short term courses/workshops before committing to a masters program or career choice. You can explore different Kaarwan workshops here.

4. The List :

When looking for universities, have your own selection parameters in place. They can include country, culture, job opportunities for immigrants after masters, ease of business/licensing, safety, scholarships etc.

Pro and con it or SWOT it, figure out what your best options are. Consider subjects, professors, program reputation, curriculum, alumni success rate, and growth opportunities when figuring it out.

5. Do not hesitate to ask for help:

Tap into your network - Reach out to your seniors or alumni on LinkedIn. Talk to your professors, your employers, your classmates. You never know what you might learn from someone else's experience.

Try exploring workshops - Meet like-minded aspirants. Learn from mentors who have gone through the entire experience of masters - from research to applications to getting the degree!
