Colorful Cities: Exploring the Influence of Color in Urban Architecture

The use of color in the construction industry dates back to centuries! The use and importance of color are seen in many parts of the world and established in many of our heritage monuments and buildings. Here are some examples that demonstrate the important and exuberant use of color in shaping cities. Whether it's a street with every color of the rainbow or an entire town decked out in blues or pinks, the colors of a place can leave a lasting imprint on our travel memories.

1. Naples, Italy

The ancient city of Naples showcases a variation with vivid and faded colors on the roof. These changes signify the different construction periods of the building.

2. Las Palmas, Spain

Las Palmas is known for its colorful facades and rooftops. In addition to their visual appeal, the colors of the roof terraces reduce solar heat, providing greater comfort in their interior space.

3. Khlong Sam Wa, Thailand

In one of the districts of Bangkok; the roof tiles are painted in light colors to reflect the sunlight and lower the indoor temperature; creating easily identifiable housing developments.

4. Burano, Italy

The origin of multicolored houses here is undetermined, but it’s said that fishermen couldn’t recognize their homes in fog, thus using vibrant colors to make them easier to identify.

5. Boynton Beach, USA

Besides the green vegetation surrounding the houses; the colorful roofs amongst the blue water bodies and a winding urban layout create a remarkable natural landscape view.

6. Jodhpur, India

Known as the blue city of India, the old part of Jodhpur has houses painted in blue. It Is considered the color of lord Shiva and is used to keep the house interiors cool and fight termites.
